Economy, life — main issues in presidential race

The results of the Iowa straw poll are in, and one conservative says a message from the outcome will move forward.

While the economy is a major issue in the 2012 presidential race, the Susan B. Anthony List spent a week on a 22-city, 1,300-mile bus tour in Iowa to make sure the pro-life message stayed at the forefront of the straw poll debate. SBA List project director Marilyn Musgrave stresses that the candidates who came out on top in the poll are the ones who signed her group’s pledge. She tells OneNewsNow that the issue will not fade as the campaign goes forward.

“We people who hold deeply to the sanctity of human life are not going away,” Musgrave assures. “And I believe that people in this country realize more and more that laws can save lives, that policy makes a difference not only for that precious unborn child, but for women and girls and families.”

And she believes that all the work her group put into the Iowa straw poll paid off.

“I believe the straw poll sends a message to the nation that we want a pro-life president who will really lead on life,” the project director decides. “And with the most pro-abortion president ever serving in this country right now, it’ll be a great day when we have someone in the White House who cares about the little guys.”

Rep. Michele Bachmann claimed the number-one spot in the Iowa poll results with 29 percent (4,823 votes) of the crowd’s support. Rep. Ron Paul was close behind with 28 percent (4,671 votes), and ex-Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty came in third with 14 percent (2,293 votes).
