The Values Bus Makes Whistle Stop In Oskaloosa Tuesday

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Value Voters bus made a stop in the Oskaloosa Downtown Square over the noon hour on Tuesday. Connie Mackey, with the Family Research Council in Washington D.C., said they are helping to sponsor the bus and its’ stops under the name “The Faith Family Freedom Fund Tour.”

Mackey went on to say that they are doing this tour because, “Iowa has a unique place in American Politics. First in the nation status gives the citizens of Iowa a real strong hand in what happens in presidential politics.”

Along with the Family Research Council sponsoring the tour is the Susan B. Anthony List and the National Organization for Marriage. Mackey said, “These organizations work very hard, not just in Washington D.C. certainly, but throughout the nation to have our voices heard about the important family issues.”

Mackey then went on to connect saving money in government with some of their ideas on family and the values they are promoting. “It means your tax dollars are going to all kinds of different programs and committees that don’t need to exist if the family is intact.”

Former Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave (R), who was a US Representative from Colorado, was there representing the Susan B. Anthony List.

Musgrave pointed out the importance Iowa  in the Presidential election process with its’ first in the nation status. “So everyone’s looking at Iowa and thinking what’s going to happen on the evening of the Straw Poll,” Musgrave said.

“Life is the issue,” Musgrave said about the reason for the Susan B. Anthony List and their part in the bus tour. “We’re all about electing pro-life women, supporting pro-life men when they’re running against an EMILY’s List endorsed.”

She went on to say, “We were involved in the last election cycle seeing 90 people elected to congress that were pro-life.” Musgrave continued, “And I believe in the darkest of days under this most pro-abortion President ever, we’re seeing great success on the life issue. And when I say he’s the most pro-aborition President ever, I’m talking about his actions on Mexico City policy.”

Musgrave continued, “President Obama, by executive order, said that our tax dollars should go for abortion in 3rd World Countries.”

“We at this time in our country are looking for a leader on life, and what happens at that Straw Poll will have great influence on this whole process,” Musgrave explained.

Iowa Right to Life Director Jennifer Bowen was the last of the three speakers at the stop in Oskaloosa.

“There’s no greater example of why elections matter then when in 2008, under a pro-abortion governorship here in the State of Iowa, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland began to secretively roll out web-cam abortions across the State of Iowa. Flash forward to 2011, they’ll tell you that these are about rural access for women across the state.” Bowen stated about the group.

“What you need to know is that our women, our daughters, our granddaughters, sisters and friends are going into any number, 32 Planned Parenthood clinics by the end of this year, just in the State of Iowa will be rolling out these web-cam abortions. What does that mean? That means that our girls, our women are going to be walking into a clinic, take a first set of pills in front of a web-cam talking to a doctor maybe 10 miles away, maybe 200 miles away.”

“Clearly, un-apologetically pro-life. My purpose on this trip is we as Iowan’s have to know this is happening in our state,” Bowen said of her reason for speaking and going on this bus tour.

I spoke with Congresswoman Musgrave, and asked her what makes women, such as herself, come out and stand and be a voice for this. “Well, actually most American’s are now pro-life. It was found out by Gallup the first time ever in 2011 the majority of American’s are pro-life, and also the majority of women are pro-life now. So the life issue even in these times when our economies on the mind of every American, the life issues is still very important.”

“All these years after Rov v. Wade, pro-life Americans are still very concerned because they know that policy and laws can save lives, and their looking for a leader on the life issue.” Musgrave said. She went on to explain that 6 of the candidates have signed the pledge with the Susan B. Anthony List over the life issue.
