Susan G. Komen for the Cure Donates $7.5 Million to Planned Parenthood

It’s that time of year again. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month but sadly, pro-life activists remain unable to support the most prominent breast cancer foundation: Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  The Susan G. Komen Foundation has long been connected to Planned Parenthood going so far as to make significant contributions ($7,500,000 last year) to the group that holds the title of our nation’s number one abortion promoter and provider.

What’s worse is that Planned Parenthood group has also denied the significant amount of research showing women who have an abortion are 40% more likely to get breast cancer during their lifetime. (The Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer has done a great job accumulating the research on this issue.)

It would seem that pro-life activists and breast cancer researchers have similar goals: by ending abortion, fewer women will be at an increased risk to develop breast cancer, but because of their continued affiliation with Planned Parenthood, Susan G. Komen cannot expect to receive substantial support from the pro-life community. In a recent interview with the Daily Caller, Komen spokesman, John Hammarley said the group closely monitors the money they donate to Planned Parenthood, to ensure the money is not spent on abortions, but instead is used for breast cancer screenings. But the fact remains that money is fungible, abortion still remains the number one procedure performed by Planned Parenthood and in 2008, the number of abortions done by Planned Parenthood increased 6%, while breast cancer screenings decreased by 4%.
