Yesterday, according to LifeNews.com, the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law is considering a bill that would delay the Bush Administration’s rule that protects Doctors, Nurses, and other Health Care professionals from being forced to participate in abortions and other controversial medical procedures. The bill, H.R. 34, was proposed by Representative Jerry Nadler (D-NY).
If this bill is passed by the House and Senate, then it will further delay the protection that should be granted to health care workers and hospitals to follow their consciences.
The opponents of conscience protections are pushing this bill so they will have more time to reverse the conscience regulations once the new Secretary of Health and Human Services takes office. President Obama’s first nominee to be Secretary of Health and Human Services was Tom Daschle, who withdrew his nomination because he had failed to pay his taxes.
