âFirst Stepsâ: Nearly 80 Attacks on Life-Saving Nonprofits Since Dobbs Leak
Washington, D.C. â Â The U.S. Department of Justice yesterday announced that two Florida residents have been indicted in connection with vandalism and threats toward pregnancy centers. The federal changes come after the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning pro-abortion attacks on pro-life facilities, groups, and churches.
A DOJ press release states:
According to the indictment, as part of the conspiracy, the defendantsâŠare alleged to have spray painted threats, including âIf abortions arenât safe than niether [sic] are you,â âYOUR TIME IS UP!!,â âWEâRE COMING for U,â and âWe are everywhere.â
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser welcomed the news of the indictment, saying:
âSince the leak of the Dobbs decision eight months ago, there have been at least 79 attacks — including firebombings and threats of violence â on pregnancy centers and other nonprofits working to save lives. In Michigan a pro-life advocate was shot while peacefully canvassing. We thank House Republican leaders for standing with the front-line heroes serving women and families in our communities and keeping the pressure on the Biden-Harris administration.
âThese charges are good first steps, but the fight for equal justice is far from over. With a new House GOP majority positioned to exercise its oversight powers, we are finally beginning to see some accountability. Yet the Justice Department continues to target the people of states that protect unborn children and their mothers. Congressional Democrats had the opportunity to condemn the violence and all but three refused, and again we have had to call on the White House to stop vilifying pro-life Americans. The pro-life movement is keeping a watchful eye on this administration and we will not be silent in the face of violence and intimidation.â
Earlier this month a new Marist/Knights of Columbus poll found that 91% of Americans support pregnancy centers, which offer vital material, medical and educational support to mothers both during their pregnancy and after their baby is born. Additional findings include:
