“First Steps”: Nearly 80 Attacks on Life-Saving Nonprofits Since Dobbs Leak
Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Justice yesterday announced that two Florida residents have been indicted in connection with vandalism and threats toward pregnancy centers. The federal changes come after the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning pro-abortion attacks on pro-life facilities, groups, and churches.
A DOJ press release states:
According to the indictment, as part of the conspiracy, the defendants…are alleged to have spray painted threats, including “If abortions aren’t safe than niether [sic] are you,” “YOUR TIME IS UP!!,” “WE’RE COMING for U,” and “We are everywhere.”
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser welcomed the news of the indictment, saying:
“Since the leak of the Dobbs decision eight months ago, there have been at least 79 attacks — including firebombings and threats of violence – on pregnancy centers and other nonprofits working to save lives. In Michigan a pro-life advocate was shot while peacefully canvassing. We thank House Republican leaders for standing with the front-line heroes serving women and families in our communities and keeping the pressure on the Biden-Harris administration.
“These charges are good first steps, but the fight for equal justice is far from over. With a new House GOP majority positioned to exercise its oversight powers, we are finally beginning to see some accountability. Yet the Justice Department continues to target the people of states that protect unborn children and their mothers. Congressional Democrats had the opportunity to condemn the violence and all but three refused, and again we have had to call on the White House to stop vilifying pro-life Americans. The pro-life movement is keeping a watchful eye on this administration and we will not be silent in the face of violence and intimidation.”
Earlier this month a new Marist/Knights of Columbus poll found that 91% of Americans support pregnancy centers, which offer vital material, medical and educational support to mothers both during their pregnancy and after their baby is born. Additional findings include:
- 69% of Americans support limiting abortion to, at most, the first three months of pregnancy.
- Includes 72% of women, 71% of Independents and nearly half of rank-and-file Democrats.
- 60% of Americans oppose using tax dollars to fund abortion domestically, and 78% oppose using tax dollars to fund abortion abroad.
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is a network of more than one million pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
