Pro-life Voters will be looking for strong Pro-life Candidates to Defund America’s #1 Abortion Provider and Fight against the Vivisection of Unborn Children

Washington, D.C – This afternoon the U.S. Senate voted 53 to 46 on S.1881, legislation to defund America’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, and re-direct their funding to other health care entities that do not perform abortions.

The national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) released the following statement in response to the vote:

“When the Senate last voted to defund Planned Parenthood, only 42 voted for it. Since that 2011 effort, things have only gotten worse for the nation’s largest abortion provider. The Center for Medical Progress has released less than half of its damning evidence of brutality and callousness at Planned Parenthood and, as more videos are made public, outrage will surely grow,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser.

“Our legislative strategy continues to be twofold. We will support all aggressive efforts this fall to get taxpayers out of Planned Parenthood’s profit-driven, abortion-centered enterprise. The Senate must also press on with a vote on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would save lives by literally taking some children off of the table for vivisection after five months.”

“With Hillary Clinton and other national Democratic leaders doubling down on their support for unlimited abortion on-demand, up until the moment of birth, paid for by taxpayers, voters and pundits should expect to see the abortion issue play a major role in the upcoming general election. The majority of Americans who support common ground limits will be looking for pro-life candidates who lead on this issue. Meanwhile, Susan B. Anthony List will work hard to ensure voters do not forget who fails to stand for the most innocent among us.”

Fact Sheet: In 2013, abortions made up 94% of Planned Parenthood’s pregnancy services, while prenatal care and adoption referrals accounted for only 5% (18,684) and 0.5% (1,880), respectively.

Fact Sheet: There are 13 times more Federally Qualified Health Centers (9,170) that do not provide abortion than there are Planned Parenthood centers (700).

Fact Sheet: The United States is second in the world in number of abortions each year.  If Planned Parenthood were included for comparison, it would rank sixth in the world in number of abortions carried out annually.

The Center for Medical Progress has released four videos featuring undercover footage from inside a Planned Parenthood clinic, where the bodies of aborted children are dissected for their organs. Top Planned Parenthood doctors were also shown haggling over the price of the organs.

Susan B. Anthony List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women.  SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
