Experts to Testify on Urgent Need to #EndInfanticide
Washington, D.C. – U.S. House of Representatives Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA), Rep. Ann Wagner (R-MO), in coordination with the Pro-life Caucus will hold a hearing on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, legislation to protect babies born alive in failed abortions, today, September 10 at 1:00 p.m. Eastern in House Capitol Visitor Center (HVC) Room 215.
“We thank Whip Scalise, Rep. Wagner, and the Pro-life Caucus for leading the charge to protect babies who survive abortions in the face of extraordinary obstruction from Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “The overwhelming majority of Americans – including 70 percent of Democrats – want Congress to pass this lifesaving bill, and over 200 members of Congress have signed Whip Scalise’s discharge petition to hold a vote, but House Democratic Party leaders have spent seven months blocking it. We urge Democrats from Republican-leaning districts to listen to their constituents, stand against infanticide, and sign the petition right away.”
SBA List’s National Campaign Chair Jill Stanek, a former nurse who witnessed babies being born alive and left to die, and a key witness who will testify at the hearing, added:
“As a nurse I held a precious child who had been abandoned to die alone in the hospital’s soiled utility room after surviving an abortion. Twenty years later, we are still fighting for the basic care these little ones deserve. As extremists in New York, Illinois, and other states push to expand abortion on demand through the moment of birth, abortion survivors desperately need Congress to pass the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, to provide them with legal and medical protections and not leave open the decision whether they live or die.”
Also testifying are experts with SBA List’s research arm, Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI): Dr. Kathi Aultman, a board-certified Ob/Gyn, former abortionist and CLI associate scholar; Dr. Robin Pierucci, clinical neonatologist and CLI associate scholar; and Tessa Longbons, CLI research associate.
SBA List and CLI witnesses will be available for comment. Please contact Prudence Robertson at [email protected] to schedule an interview.

Since Rep. Wagner introduced the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act on February 5, House Democratic Party leaders have refused more than 80 requests by pro-life Republicans for unanimous consent for the House to consider it. 201 members of Congress have signed a discharge petition filed by Whip Scalise to hold a vote on the bill. If a majority of representatives sign the petition, it will force a vote by the full House.
Nationwide polling released by SBA List finds that 77 percent of voters support legislation to ensure that a baby who survives a failed abortion be given the same medical treatment as any other baby born prematurely at the same age (55 percent strongly support.)
SBA List is a network of more than 787,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
