Vast Majority of U.S. OB-GYNs Do Not Carry Out Abortions

Washington, D.C.Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America rebukes the pro-abortion American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) today and offers its support for pro-life doctors who revealed that they were banned from participating in a major medical education conference after 15 years.

In a statement, SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser called on ACOG to reverse course:

“The abortion industry wants a captive audience to spread misinformation and promote an ideology of abortion on demand and works to silence the majority who disagree. In every pregnancy there are two patients: a mother and her unborn baby. Abortion is not health care, it is an act of violence against them both with the intention of killing the child. We stand with the pro-life medical community who want nothing but to provide the best care for all their patients, born and unborn, especially the most vulnerable.”

ACOG claims that “A human fetus does not have the capacity to experience pain until after at least 24–25 weeks,” despite considerable scientific evidence that unborn children can feel pain by 15 weeks’ gestation, if not earlier. ACOG’s “Guide to Language and Abortion” states that terms like baby and unborn child are “biased” and should not be used, but the bias belongs to ACOG, even against the vast majority of its members.

Ingrid Skop, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., a board-certified OB-GYN who has practiced in Texas for more than 25 years and serves as director of medical affairs at Charlotte Lozier Institute, added:

“ACOG is dramatically out of touch with the vast majority of its own members who love caring for women and babies and want no part in ending any patient’s life. One survey found that 86% of U.S. OB-GYNs did not want to carry out abortions. Excluding pro-life obstetricians from this important educational conference is a transparent attempt by pro-abortion ACOG leaders to convince students and residents that they are alone if they oppose abortion, which is far from the truth. In the midst of the new Dobbs era, it is vitally important that those of us who practice life-affirming medicine advocate for our patients and our profession.”

A Marist/Knight of Columbus poll in January found that seven in 10 Americans support limiting abortion to, at most, the first three months of pregnancy. This includes 72% of women, 71% of Independents and nearly half of rank-and-file Democrats.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is a network of more than one million pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
