WASHINGTON â On Tuesday, January 26, 2010 the Susan B. Anthony List will launch an eight-city tour and national pro-life grassroots mobilization effort in the home districts of Senators and Members of Congress with the message that âabortion is NOT health care.â Pro-life women at the local and national levels will join forces to encourage all Americans to contact Congress voicing their opposition to any measure that will fund abortion with our tax dollars. The press tour coincides with an effort by the Susan B. Anthony List to mobilize thousands of pro-life constituents to contact their local district offices in the states on the tour.
WHO: -Marilyn Musgrave, Director, Votes Have Consequences Project, Susan B.Anthony List, and former Member of Congress from Colorado
-Local pro-life women leaders in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas
WHAT: Women Speak Out: Abortion is NOT Health Care media tour and pro-life mobilization campaign.
PRESS TOUR: The press tour will visit eight towns in four states this week. Musgrave will join local pro-life women leaders in Louisiana (Baton Rouge), Mississippi (Hattiesburg and Tupelo), Alabama (Montgomery and Birmingham) and Arkansas (Little Rock, Hot Springs and Fayetteville). The events will be held outside district offices of the Senators and Members of Congress.
The tour will stop at the office of Senators Mary Landrieu (D-LA) and Blanche Lincoln (D-AR).
Events will also encourage and thank the following Members of Congress who voted in favor of the pro-life Stupak Amendment: Rep. Charlie Melancon (LA-03), Rep. Bobby Bright (AL-02), Rep. Artur Davis (AL-07), Rep. Gene Taylor (MS-04), Rep. Travis Childers (MS-01), Rep. Mike Ross (AR-04), and Rep. Marion Berry (AR-01).
MOBILIZATION: Susan B. Anthony List activists in each state on the tour will be encouraged to call their local district offices and urge legislators to oppose health care legislation that funds abortion.
This tour comes on the heels of a successful Midwestern campaign held Jan. 11-14, 2010 that visited nine cities in key districts throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana.
WHEN: January 26 â 29, 2010
WHY: Marilyn Musgrave states, âWhether itâs one big health care bill, or a series of smaller bills, pro-life Americans nationwide are speaking out to say that abortion is not health care. Weâre thankful for the many principled pro-life Democrats in Congress who have already voted to defend women and unborn children. But itâs no secret that each of them is under intense pressure to yield in the name of âcompromise.â This must not happen. The Senate health care bill allows government-funded abortion, and it must not be advanced in any form. On behalf of millions of pro-life Americans, we urge pro-life Democrats in the House to stand firm, and for their colleagues in the Senate to join them to respect the consciences of taxpayers and oppose any health care legislation that funds abortion on-demand.â
