Washington, D.C. –Today SBA Pro-Life America’s Candidate Fund announced its endorsement of Laurie Buckhout (R) for Congress in North Carolina’s 1st District.

“Laurie Buckhout’s life is one of service before self. She is the right fighter for North Carolina at this pivotal moment,” said Hon. Marilyn Musgrave, SBA Pro-Life America’s vice president of government affairs. “Rep. Don Davis’s record during his short time in Congress is that of an extremist who has clearly betrayed North Carolinians’ values. Just days into his term, he voted against providing life-saving care to babies who survive attempted abortions. Even more shocking for a self-professed minister, he refused to join more than 220 House colleagues in condemning attacks on churches, pregnancy centers and other organizations that hold pro-life views.

“North Carolina has taken historic steps to limit painful abortions and assist women and families, and our leaders should align with the majority of Americans who want to protect both mothers and babies. Laurie stands with the people for the voiceless. We urge all the voters of the 1st District to support her.”

Buckhout is a retired Army colonel and decorated combat commander. She grew up on a farm in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley and attended James Madison University on an ROTC scholarship. She was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Army Signal Corps in 1984 and spent the next 26 years in assignments around the world, including Iraq. Her awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Bronze Star, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal and many others. She and her husband have two sons and live in Edenton, North Carolina.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is a network of more than one million pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
