In May, LifeNews.com reports that Gov. Rick Perry signed legislation which will allow women seeking an abortion to view a sonogram of their unborn child at least 24 hours before undergoing the procedure.
Perhaps more importantly, the law requires the abortion practitioner to explain the sonogram images, the risks of the abortion procedure, and abortion alternatives. Additionally, the abortion practitioner will be required to allow women to listen to their unborn child’s heartbeat while also explaining what is being heard.
Gov. Perry was more than pleased to be able to sign the legislation into law, noting, “Every life lost to abortion is a tragedy we all must work together to prevent.” According to leaders in the Texas pro-life movement, an important step has been taken in this direction with the enactment of this legislation which is estimated to save the lives of 40,000 children each year.
