Includes Large Majorities of Democrats, Independents, and Pro-choice Voters

Washington, D.C. –  A new poll released today by Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) and Rhode Island Right to Life finds that:

• 73 percent of Rhode Island voters – including 63 percent of Democrats, 77 percent of Independents, and 56 percent of self-described pro-choice voters – oppose late-term abortions in general.
• When told that the legislature is considering a bill that would allow abortions up until birth, for any reason, fully 77% of Rhode Island voters – including 69 percent of Democrats, 79 percent of Independents, 80 percent of women, and 62 percent of self-described pro-choice voters – say they oppose allowing abortions up until birth.

A would allow abortion on demand through birth – including gruesome partial-birth abortions and dismemberment abortions on pain-capable unborn children – for any reason, prevent meaningful regulation of the abortion industry, and even strip legal protections for unborn children killed during violent crimes against pregnant mothers.

“More than three in four Rhode Island voters – Democrats, Independents, women, and a strong majority of self-described pro-choice voters – think allowing abortion on demand through birth is extreme,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Rhode Island lawmakers should heed the will of their constituents and reject radical New York-style expansion of late-term abortion.”

Barth Bracy, executive director of Rhode Island Right to Life, said, “Contrary to absurd polling data pushed by irresponsible media outlets and pro-abortion politicians, yet another poll confirms the majority of Rhode Islanders overwhelmingly oppose this extreme abortion agenda.”

The Tarrance Group conducted telephone interviews of 400 registered Rhode Island voters between April 29 and May 2, 2019. The margin of error associated with a sample of this type is + 4.9% in 95 out of 100 cases.
