Pro-life Leaders to Hold Press Conference Today in Boston

Washington, D.C. –  The national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List), Renew Massachusetts Coalition, Massachusetts Family Institute and other local pro-life leaders will hold a press conference this morning at 11:30 a.m. at the State House in Boston, Massachusetts in opposition to the extremism of the “Roe Act” (SB 1209 and HB 3320). SBA List’s State Policy Director Sue Swayze Liebel will present polling released today by SBA List, which finds that:

• Sixty-two percent of Massachusetts voters – including 49 percent of Democrats, 66 percent of Independents, and 44 percent of self-described pro-choice voters –oppose allowing more late-term abortions (only 38 percent support).
• Three in four voters (74 percent) – including 74 percent of Democrats, 74 percent of women, and 77 percent of pro-choice voters – support existing law that requires late-term abortions after 24 weeks to be performed in hospitals (only 26 percent oppose).
• 62 percent of voters – including 55 percent of Democrats, 60 percent of women, and 52 percent of pro-choice voters – support Massachusetts’ existing law that requires parental consent before a minor girl can get an abortion (only 38 percent oppose).

The “Roe Act” would expand late-term abortion on demand through birth, eliminate Massachusetts’ existing parental consent law, and remove protections for babies born alive in failed abortions.

“An overwhelming majority of Massachusetts voters support existing, common-sense abortion limits and agree that expanding abortion on demand through birth is too extreme,” said Liebel. “The response to this radical legislation across the board – Democrats, Independents, women, and self-described pro-choice voters – shows this is not a partisan issue. Massachusetts lawmakers should stand with their constituents and reject abortion extremism.”

The Tarrance Group conducted telephone interviews of 500 registered Massachusetts voters between April 29 and May 2, 2019. The margin of error associated with a sample of this type is+ 4.5% in 95 out of 100 cases.
