America Must Elect a Pro-life President in 2016
WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Obama has vetoed historic budget reconciliation legislation that would have defunded Planned Parenthood and reallocated taxpayer dollars to comprehensive health care centers. This is only the eighth time in his presidency he has used veto power.
Susan B. Anthony List, which led a coalition of pro-life groups encouraging Congress to use the reconciliation process to defund Planned Parenthood, responded saying:
“President Obama wasted no time demonstrating to the American people just how beholden he and his party are to Planned Parenthood – the nation’s largest abortion business. Planned Parenthood has been caught on tape brutally harvesting and attempting to profit off of aborted baby organs, and their latest annual report shows once again they are a profit-driven, abortion-centered business. However, no scandal is too big to overlook when it comes to the Democratic Party’s chief ally in the abortion lobby,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA List.
“This veto, as well as Planned Parenthood’s timely endorsement of Hillary Clinton yesterday, should serve as a wakeup call for pro-life Americans. A pathway has been created by the reconciliation process to defund Planned Parenthood. This longtime pro-life goal – and many others – can only be achieved if the nation elects a pro-life leader this November. SBA List will work tirelessly to ensure voters understand who will defend the abortion industry and who will stand up for our pro-life values as president.”
SBA List released a new fact sheet this week detailing the dramatic decline in Planned Parenthood’s non-abortion services, despite the fact that taxpayer funding for the group is up nearly 5 percent from the previous fiscal year. Among SBA List’s findings (based on Planned Parenthood’s recently released 2014-2015 annual report):
The Susan B. Anthony List and its Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, spent $15.25 million in the 2014 election cycle to defeat pro-abortion incumbents and elect pro-life candidates to federal and statewide office. The SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women. Â The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
