Vote would not be Necessary with a Pro-life President in 2017
Washington, D.C. – This evening the U.S. House of Representatives failed to override President Obama’s veto of a reconciliation bill that would have defunded Planned Parenthood and reallocated its taxpayer dollars to comprehensive health care centers.
Susan B. Anthony List, a national pro-life group focused on electing a pro-life president, offered the following comment:
“The U.S. House, once again, acted on the will of the American people who want to stop taxpayer funding for abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood and instead support comprehensive health care centers. Only one man – Barack Obama – stands in the way. His veto was a call to action to the pro-life grassroots. This year we must elect a president who respects life and will protect the conscience rights of taxpayers,” said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “With a pro-life president in the White House, there will be no need for an override vote. Defunding Planned Parenthood – America’s largest abortion business – could be a reality in 2017.”
“Susan B. Anthony List has already begun working towards victory in November by first educating voters about the candidates who, like President Obama, take marching orders from the abortion lobby and oppose even modest abortion limits. Not only does Hillary Clinton support federal funding of Planned Parenthood, she wants to dismantle the Hyde Amendment, longstanding, bipartisan legislation to prevent taxpayer funds from paying for elective abortion.
“As many as seven in ten Americans oppose taxpayer funding of abortion – including majorities of young people and women. If Mrs. Clinton wants to use this election to go to war against this longtime consensus, we welcome the opportunity to engage and expose her. We are confident the American people will reject this level of extremism at the ballot box.”
The Susan B. Anthony List and its Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, spent $16.71 million in the 2014 election cycle to defeat pro-abortion incumbents and elect pro-life candidates to federal and statewide office. The SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women. The SBA List is a network of more than 465,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
