New Name Reflects the New Era of the Pro-Life Movement; Dannenfelser: “The pro-life movement is just getting started.”
Washington, D.C. – The nation’s largest pro-life advocacy organization announced today it will now be known as Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America.
Founded in 1992 as Susan B. Anthony List, the group started as a counter to the pro-abortion EMILY’s List and to give pro-life women a voice in the political process. Marjorie Dannenfelser and a group of like-minded women named the organization in honor of the staunch pro-life views of the original feminists, who saw abortion as an exploitation of women.
The name Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America reflects that legacy, the group’s evolution into a policy and political powerhouse with more than a million members nationwide, and the vision of hope for an America that welcomes every unborn life under the law and supports mothers by empowering them to choose life.
To do this, SBA Pro-Life America will continue its robust engagement in federal politics and policy while also expanding to meet the opportunities ahead to support and elect leaders at all levels who will champion pro-life policies that serve women and children. A growing state affairs team will replicate the organization’s success at the federal level by heavily investing in legislative, educational and political engagement and leveraging pro-life electoral victories to advance lifesaving law and policy.

Anthony Pro-Life America represents how far we’ve come as a grassroots human rights movement, as well as the opportunities ahead,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, the group’s president. “Thirty years ago, the loudest voices in politics belonged to the abortion lobby and America’s pro-life women were seldom heard. Today, women are at the forefront of historic life-affirming change in state legislatures and in Washington, and the pro-life movement is at the threshold of a new era. After decades of strategic effort to take the pro-life movement from defense to offense and hold leaders accountable, the pro-life movement elected a pro-life president and Senate who ushered in a majority on the Supreme Court that appears ready to let the people speak. If the draft decision in the Dobbs case holds, Americans will soon be free to use the tools of democracy to enact consensus pro-life laws that reflect their values.”
