Today Susan B. Anthony List president Marjorie Dannenfelser released the following statement in reaction to Friday’s shooting at a Planned Parenthood facility in Colorado.
“We strongly condemn the violence carried out at Planned Parenthood. Our condolences and heartfelt prayers go out to the victims and their families.
“Violence is never justified. The actions of the shooter are in complete contradiction to the aims of the pro-life movement. Public policy debates regarding abortion – including defunding abortion businesses and protecting women and children from late term abortion – can and should continue to be discussed calmly, with conviction and civility.
“Officer Garrett Swasey embodies the spirit of the pro-life movement in this tragedy. He may not have agreed with Planned Parenthood, but Officer Swasey charged headfirst into danger to protect lives inside their clinic. He believed, as we do, that all lives are equally valuable and worthy of protection.”
Carly Fiorina got it right yesterday on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace:
“This is a tragedy. It’s obviously a tragedy. Nothing justifies this, and presumably this man who appears deranged, if nothing else, will be tried for murder, as he should be, but it’s a tragedy…”
When asked about the public policy debate over Planned Parenthood’s involvement in fetal tissue harvesting and research, Fiorina said:
“Well first, it is not alleged. Planned Parenthood acknowledged several weeks ago they would no longer take compensation for body parts, which sounds like an admission that they were doing so. Secondly, this is so typical of the left to immediately begin demonizing the messenger, because they don’t agree with the message. The vast majority of Americans agree: what Planned Parenthood is doing is wrong. That’s why the vast majority of Americans are prepared, not only to defund Planned Parenthood, but also to stop abortion for any reason at all after five months. So, what I would say to anyone who tries to link this terrible tragedy to anyone who opposes abortion or opposes the sale of body parts is, this is typical left-wing tactics…any protesters should always be peaceful, whether it’s black lives matter or pro-life protesters, protesters should always be peaceful and respectful.”
