Three national organizations are traveling Iowa this week to promote the pro-life issue among citizens and presidential hopefuls.
The Susan B. Anthony List is leading the charge in a major bus tour of the state, which will end with a straw poll on Saturday for presidential candidates. Marilyn Musgrave, director of special projects for SBA List, will be traveling 1,300 miles to 22 cities in the state to focus on candidates that her organization believes will carry the banner to defend human life.
“That means the nominee agrees to nominate only pro-life people for the Supreme Court, put [in] names [for] potential Cabinet members of people who are pro-life, especially for those relevant Cabinet positions,” she explains. Her group will also encourage the candidates “to defund Planned Parenthood federally” and commit to signing into law a bill that would ban abortions after 20 weeks.
Several of the potential nominees have already signed the Susan B. Anthony List Pledge. But the pro-life group’s campaign also aims to reach another demographic.
“We’ll also be asking citizens as we go around and talk to these people in the 22 cities to sign the citizens’ pro-life pledge that says they will only vote for a candidate who is pro-life,” Musgrave reports.
While acknowledging that the economy is a major issue in the presidential campaign, Musgrave says life is also a vital issue that must be addressed as well. Family Research Council and the National Organization for Marriage are joining in the whirlwind tour of Iowa.
