The House should pass the Jackson-Roy Amendment to stop taxpayer-funded abortion in the NDAA
WASHINGTON D.C. – This week, the U.S. House is expected to vote on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Susan B. Anthony Pro-life America supports Congressmen Ronny Jackson (R-TX-13) and Chip Roy’s (R-TX-21) amendment to the NDAA that would roll back the Biden administration’s illegal policy of using taxpayer dollars to fund abortion travel for servicemembers and their dependents.
In February, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) issued guidance to implement Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s directive that the DoD pay travel costs for servicemembers and their dependents for elective (“non-covered”) abortions. Since 1984, federal law has prohibited DOD funding for elective abortion. The Austin directive was issued in blatant disregard for this longstanding law.
SBA Pro-life America slammed the Biden-Harris administration and praised Congressmen Jackson and Roy:
“The Biden-Harris administration will stop at nothing, including ignoring state and federal laws to impose abortion on demand paid for by taxpayers in all 50 states,” said SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “In this case, the administration has ignored a four decades old law against taxpayer funding for abortion to use taxpayer dollars for abortion travel for servicemembers, their spouses and children across the country. This policy is not only illegal but uses the DOD to promote the interests of the abortion lobby when the Department should instead focus on national security and the needs of service members, particularly wounded, ill or injured members who deserve better. Congressmen Jackson and Roy are courageously leading the charge to rein in the administration’s rogue action and safeguard taxpayer dollars from involvement in the brutality of abortion. We urge all Members of Congress to vote yes on the Jackson-Roy amendment.”
The Biden administration’s policy goes against the longstanding federal law, 10 USC 1093, that ensures federal taxpayer dollars may not be used to fund abortion in the military, in line with status quo Hyde principles. To date, the original Hyde amendment governing Medicaid has saved over 2.5 million unborn American lives.
