Washington, D.C. – This morning Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, will lead a hearing showcasing abortion extremism. Democrats are expected to call for removal of the longstanding, popular Hyde amendment, promote the so-called Women’s Health Protection Act, and decry Texas’ Heartbeat Act as unconstitutional. Rep. Maloney is also leading efforts to eliminate key FDA safeguards that inform women about the dangers of chemical abortion drugs.
Susan B. Anthony List will live-tweet the hearing which will be streamed beginning at 10 am ET.
Pro-life Republicans on the committee were permitted two witnesses:
“The majority is certainly consistent in their anti-life agenda. By doing away with the Hyde Amendment, they are simultaneously pulling the ripcord on funding that should be going to preventing taxpayer-funded abortion. Instead, they’re putting their passion forward for policies that, if enacted three decades ago, would likely have ensured that I would not be sharing my story today. We cannot continue to glorify and normalize abortion.”
“A woman who was my patient recalled tearfully how her mother forced her to undergo an abortion; then her current boyfriend wanted her to abort this, her second child. She strongly desired both of her children, how is this a woman’s choice?”
Ahead of the hearing, SBA List president Marjorie Dannenfelser offered the following comment:
“The American people are eager to modernize our laws to reflect decades of science showing that unborn children are as human as you and me. Despite what pro-abortion advocates may claim today, abortion is not health care. Mother and children deserve better and we applaud Representative Kat Cammack and Dr. Ingrid Skop for bravely testifying today in order to convey the reality of abortion, which deeply wounds women destroys innocent lives.”
The Hyde Amendment family of policy riders ensures that federal taxpayer dollars may not be used to fund abortion. To date, the original Hyde amendment has saved over 2.4 million unborn American lives.
The Women’s Health Protection Act would enshrine abortion as a “right” in the U.S. Constitution, prevent enforcement of existing pro-life laws, and block the passage of new pro-life policies on the federal and state levels.
The Texas Heartbeat Act, which went into effect on September 1, protects babies in Texas from abortion as early as you can detect a fetal heartbeat.
Public opinion polls consistently show a strong majority of Americans reject pro-abortion extremism.
SBA List is a network of more than 900,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
