SBA List Praises Gov. Bevin & State Lawmakers for their Commitment to Protecting Unborn Children and their Mothers

Washington, D.C. –  Yesterday the Kentucky legislature passed a bill that would end dismemberment abortions after eleven weeks of pregnancy. H.B. 454 passed by an overwhelming majority in the House (75-13) and the Senate (31-5) and now heads to Governor Matt Bevin’s desk for his signature. The national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) released the following statement in response:

“Kentucky is at the forefront of a growing momentum to humanize our laws,” said former U.S. Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave, SBA List’s Vice President of Government Affairs. “No society that aspires toward justice and compassion should turn a blind eye to a practice as barbaric as dismemberment abortion, in which defenseless unborn babies are torn limb from limb. SBA List thanks our National Pro-life Women’s Caucus member Rep. Addia Wuchner, who championed this important bill, and Governor Bevin for his steadfast commitment to protecting unborn children and their mothers. We are confident he will swiftly sign it into law. We look forward to a future in which all unborn children are guaranteed equal protection, one that is that much closer today thanks to the pro-life citizens of Kentucky.”

State Representative Addia Wuchner (R-66) added:

“As the Sponsor of H.B. 454, recognizing the rights of the human child, I sincerely thank everyone for their prayers and support that brought H.B. 454 to final passage. I reminded the Kentucky House again today, with the enactment of H.B. 454, our Commonwealth is not asking the Supreme Court to overturn or replace Roe v. Wade. Rather, we affirm the State’s compelling interest in protecting the integrity of the medical profession, and also to again recognize the additional separate and independent compelling interest this Commonwealth has in fostering respect for life by protecting the unborn child from an abortion procedure that utilizes the brutal and cruel process of the intentional dismemberment, crushing and vivisection of the human unborn child.”

Susan B. Anthony List and its partner super PAC, Women Speak Out spent more than $18 million in the 2016 election cycle, knocking on more than 1.1 million doors in battleground states to defeat Hillary Clinton and maintain a pro-life Senate. SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women.  The SBA List is a network of more than 630,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
