Amarillo, TX – Spokespeople with Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America and its research arm Charlotte Lozier Institute are on the ground in Amarillo today to discuss the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. U.S. Food and Drug Administration case as the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas hears oral arguments.

Ingrid Skop, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., a board-certified OB-GYN who has practiced in Texas for nearly 30 years and serves as senior fellow and director of medical affairs at the Lozier Institute, will be present to support to her colleagues with the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG) who will finally have the opportunity to be heard in court after challenging the safety of the abortion drug mifepristone for over two decades.

Ahead of the hearing, Skop provided the following statement:

“Pregnancy is not an illness. Children are our future. These are things the vast majority of Americans agree on – except for the FDA, which ditched common sense, ignored its own rules and bypassed important safeguards when approving the abortion pill. Does this powerful drug impact adolescent development? Future fertility? No one knows, because the FDA never bothered to perform focused studies on girls under 18. Even further, the FDA approved mail-order abortion based on studies that used physical exams, ultrasounds and lab work. Those standard procedures don’t take place over the internet or via an online chat, which is how the FDA now allows the abortion pill to be distributed. Instead of following the science, the FDA put politics ahead of science, putting women and girls at risk.”

Chuck Donovan, president of Charlotte Lozier Institute, called on the media to report research that shows abortion pills are unsafe:

“We say that the abortion pill is dangerous because objective, peer-reviewed science says that the abortion pill is dangerous. Yet instead of reporting on the science, mainstream media outlets continue to parrot pro-abortion talking points.

“Here’s the science the mainstream media chooses to ignore. Major international studies show that the abortion pill carries four times the risk of complications as surgical abortion. A 17-year longitudinal analysis of over 400,000 confirmed U.S. abortions finds the rate of abortion pill-related emergency room visits has spiked more than 500%.

“The abortion industry claims to be pro-woman, yet they are fighting to continue a method of abortion that makes it easier for abusive boyfriends and sex traffickers to coerce women into unwanted abortions. Women don’t need and don’t deserve that sort of non-help. The pro-life movement offers more tangible and substantive support, with nearly 3,000 pro-life pregnancy centers nationwide actively helping women and girls in their communities rise above very real challenges.”

SBA Pro-Life America and several national organizations representing pro-life doctors and health care professionals submitted a brief in the case urging the court to grant a preliminary injunction. Scientists and doctors from the Lozier Institute also filed an amicus brief that details more than a dozen specific concerns with the FDA’s flawed approval.

SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser concluded:

“We welcome the chance to make the case against mifepristone using science and data, to educate the public, and to hold the FDA accountable. Sixty-three percent of Americans oppose Biden’s agenda of mail-order abortion pills on demand. We believe a fair hearing of the facts and evidence will result in much stronger protections for women and girls, as well as unborn children, from the health and safety threat posed by these dangerous drugs.”
