“A Tireless Advocate for the Dignity of Every Human Being”

Washington, D.C.  – Today the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) announced its endorsement of Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers in her campaign for re-election in Washington’s fifth congressional district.

“Cathy McMorris Rodgers is a tireless advocate for the dignity of every human being,” said former U.S. Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave, SBA List’s Vice President of Government Affairs. “A wife, mother, and the highest-ranking woman in Congress, she is an inspiration to women and girls across America and is living proof that women don’t need abortion to achieve equality and success. Her opponent is a pro-abortion extremist backed by EMILY’s List, which supports taxpayer-funded abortion on demand through all nine months of pregnancy. Cathy is a champion for all Washingtonians, especially the most vulnerable. We are proud to endorse her and urge voters to support her re-election.”

McMorris Rodgers was humbled by the endorsement, saying:

“I am honored to be endorsed by Susan B. Anthony List. I am an ardent believer that every life matters. As a mom and a lawmaker, I am determined to fight for a better America for all our children – born and unborn.”

McMorris Rodgers was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2004. As Chair of the House Republican Conference, she is the highest-ranking woman in Congress as well as the longest-serving woman in Republican leadership. She is also the only woman in Congress to give birth three times while serving. In January 2014, McMorris Rodgers delivered the Republican response to the State of the Union address, articulating a powerful pro-life message. In 2015, she was co-chair of the March for Life.

McMorris Rodgers supports legislation to end painful late-term abortions after five months, protect babies born alive in failed abortions, and prevent taxpayer funding of abortion. She and her husband Brian have three children including a son, Cole, who has Down syndrome.

Susan B. Anthony List and its partner super PAC, Women Speak Out spent more than $18 million in the 2016 election cycle, knocking on more than 1.1 million doors in battleground states to defeat Hillary Clinton and maintain a pro-life Senate. SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women.  The SBA List is a network of more than 630,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
