Voters Deserve to Know Every Candidate’s Uncensored Stance on Protecting Babies and Moms

Washington, D.C. – Hours after Robert F. Kennedy Jr. stated in an interview that he would sign a federal limit on abortion at or around three months of pregnancy, his campaign issued an unattributed statement taking those comments back.

It is not the first time Kennedy has signaled support for abortion limits. More than once, including during a town hall in June, he previously shared that abortion could be limited at three months.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser addressed the apparent flip-flop in a statement:

“Today’s Democratic Party tolerates no debate on abortion, strictly enforcing a platform of abortion on demand right up to birth and paid for by taxpayers. Kennedy is no staunch pro-life advocate. He merely expressed the consensus of Americansand a majority of rank-and-file Democrats – that unborn babies should be protected at least when they feel pain by 15 weeks. Yet most Democrat leaders refuse to name any protections they support for babies or their mothers. Democrat pollsters tell them to avoid discussing milestones that humanize the child in the womb at all costs, and instead to paint their Republican opponents as the extremists. It seems clear someone told Kennedy to step back in line. This speaks volumes about the radical abortion lobby’s grip on party leadership and consultants. The voters deserve to hear directly from Kennedy on where he really stands given the conflicting statements from him versus his campaign.”

A recent Cygnal poll found that 56% of respondents overall and a plurality of Democrats support a federal limit on abortion at 15 weeks. Top Democrats from Bernie Sanders to Pete Buttigieg have refused to even acknowledge room for pro-life Democrats in the party.

Dannenfelser continued:

“Courageous Democrats who stand up to bullies within their party are sadly few and far between. Diversity of thought when it comes to abortion is no longer encouraged or tolerated. We urge Democrats who are being censored to be brave and come forward. Candidates must be allowed to take morally sound, politically smart positions that align with the people. Voters deserve clarity about every candidate’s true position on human life and to know who is really calling the shots in this campaign. Consultants are not the ones running to be president. That is why it is so important that every candidate is asked, ‘Where do you draw the line?’”

The New York Times in November 2022 reported on the Democratic messaging strategy around abortion (emphasis added): “Debating weeks is not where we want to be,” said Celinda Lake, the longtime Democratic pollster who conducted some of the surveys. “People are terrible at math and terrible at biology.”

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is a network of more than one million pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
