Washington, DC ─ Today, the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund, a national pro-life political action committee, announced its endorsement of Tommy Thompson for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin.  He will face Rep. Tammy Baldwin in November.

“When it comes to protecting women and unborn children, the contrast between Tammy Baldwin and Tommy Thompson could not be clearer,” said Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “In Congress, Tammy Baldwin has done nothing but rubber stamp President Obama’s extreme abortion agenda, including opposing bans on partial-birth abortion and sex-selective abortion. Congresswoman Thompson failed to protect even those unborn babies targeted simply because they are the ‘wrong’ gender, usually girls. Wisconsin women and unborn children deserve better than Tammy Baldwin representing them in the U.S. Senate.

“Governor Tommy Thompson, however, is a steadfast pro-life leader who has worked across party lines to enact commonsense pro-life policies. Gov. Thompson banned partial-birth abortions in Wisconsin prior to the federal ban and enacted new laws to improve the adoption process by making adoption expenses tax exempt and expanding funding for adoption assistance. The SBA List Candidate Fund is proud to endorse Tommy Thompson and looks forward to his pro-life leadership in the U.S. Senate.”

Tommy Thompson has been endorsed by National Right to Life, Wisconsin Right to Life, Newt Gingrich and Mitch Daniels. While serving as Governor, Thompson passed various pro-life bills including the Parental Consent Act (1992), the Woman’s Right to Know Act (1992), and the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban (1998).

Rep. Baldwin holds a consistent pro-abortion voting record in the U.S. House of Representatives. She has been endorsed by EMILY’s List, NARAL, NOW and Planned Parenthood, American’s largest abortion provider.

During the 2010 election cycle, SBA List spent $11 million and was involved in 90 races, 62 of which resulted in victories. Successes included: defeating 15 of 20 so-called “pro-life” Democrats who voted for abortion funding in the health care reform bill, increasing the number of pro-life women in the House by 70 percent, filling the void of pro-life women in the U.S. Senate, and increasing the number of pro-life women governors from one to four.

The Susan B. Anthony List, and its affiliated Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, are dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates that will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List will emphasize the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women. The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
