Nat’l Pro-life Group Favors Expanding 529 Plans to Include Unborn Children, Opposes Repeal of Adoption Tax Credit

Washington, D.C. – The national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) today sent a letter to Congress expressing support for a provision of the newly released tax reform bill that would give families the option to open 529 educational savings accounts for unborn children, and opposing a provision that repeals the adoption tax credit.

SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser offered the following comment:

“The inclusion of the unborn in 529 college savings plans recognizes the humanity of the unborn child and gives parents the opportunity to save for a child’s education from the earliest stages of his or her life. SBA List fully supports this provision and it deserves bipartisan support. We especially thank Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) for his leadership on this important effort.

“SBA List opposes the provision of the bill that repeals the adoption tax credit. This important tax credit helps tens of thousands of families each year offset the steep costs of adopting children. We urge the pro-life House to remove this provision from their bill immediately.”

Susan B. Anthony List and its partner super PAC, Women Speak Out spent more than $18 million in the 2016 election cycle, knocking on more than 1.1 million doors in battleground states to defeat Hillary Clinton and maintain a pro-life Senate. SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women.  The SBA List is a network of more than 600,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
