Washington, D.C. – The national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) issued the following statement following news this morning that the U.S. Supreme Court will not yet hear a case challenging Arkansas’ Abortion-Inducing Drugs Safety Act.
“The Supreme Court’s action today means that Arkansas will have another chance to defend its chemical abortion regulations in court. That’s positive news. It is not in the interest of women to give the abortion industry carte blanche to dispense Mifeprex for self-abortion,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony List. “Studies have shown that emergency room admissions to deal with issues like hemorrhaging and incomplete abortion are common after administration of Mifeprex. The willingness of Planned Parenthood and other elements of the industry to abandon women to this level of risk reveals their true priority: Abortion, not the health and safety of women.
“The Arkansas legislature has wisely required connection with a physician who has admitting privileges so that the state’s women are not abandoned in the midst of a harrowing process that can inflict great physical and mental harm. We thank women like State Representative Charlene Fite and State Senator Linda Collins Smith who sponsored this legislation.
“Today’s action by the High Court represents a judicious course of action that will result in the trial court being forced to conduct a more searching analysis before striking down a duly enacted legislative measure designed to protect women.”
Arkansas State Rep. Robin Lundstrum, a member of the SBA List’s National Pro-life Women’s Caucus, added:
“I thank State Representative Charlene Fite, State Senator Linda Collins Smith and Attorney General Leslie Rutledge for leading the charge on this legislation. These are strong women standing up for women’s health.”
Susan B. Anthony List and its partner super PAC, Women Speak Out spent more than $18 million in the 2016 election cycle, visiting more than 1.1 million homes in battleground states to defeat Hillary Clinton and maintain a pro-life Senate. SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women. SBA List is a network of more than 630,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
