Dannenfelser: “Completely Unacceptable” that Planned Parenthood Continues to be Funded Under a Republican Congress & President

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) immediately urged Republicans in Congress to shift their efforts for redirecting Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding to the FY 2018 reconciliation bill. The group released this statement after Senate Majority Leader McConnell cancelled a scheduled vote on the health care reconciliation bill:

“The failure to pass this reconciliation bill means abortion giant Planned Parenthood remains funded by the taxpayers under a Republican Congress and President,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “This is completely unacceptable. We call on Congress and the President to include the urgent priority of re-directing Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding to comprehensive health care providers in the FY18 reconciliation bill.”

“We are grateful to Senators Graham, Cassidy, Heller, and Johnson for putting forward a strong pro-life health care reform bill that deserved the support of every pro-life Senator. We also thank Leader McConnell for pledging to bring the bill to the floor if it could garner the support needed for passage.”

This month 76 national pro-life leaders led by SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser sent a letter to Republicans in Congress calling on them to defund Planned Parenthood and redirect funding from the abortion business to comprehensive health care entities. This was one of the four specific commitments made by President Trump to the pro-life movement.

A report from the Charlotte Lozier Institute found that Planned Parenthood controls more than 35 percent of the national market for abortions and is not a significant provider of medical care in the United States. According to their most recent annual report, Planned Parenthood performed 328,348 abortions in a single year, and nearly one million over the past three years.
