Washington, D.C. – In response to news that Ohio Governor John Kasich has vetoed H.B. 258, which would ban abortion when a baby’s heartbeat can be detected, the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) offered the following statement:
“The American people have decisively rejected the extreme status quo of abortion on demand through birth imposed by the Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade nearly five decades ago,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Momentum is growing around the country to humanize our laws. We disagree with Governor Kasich’s decision to slow that momentum and veto H.B. 258.”
“Ohio lawmakers – acting on the will of the people – have been working for years to pass legislation with the potential to save thousands of unborn children a year. These precious children are unique from day one of their conception and are torn apart daily in abortion facilities. Scientifically and morally, it is impossible to deny that they belong to our human family and deserve protection.
“We thank State Senator Christina Hagan, a member of SBA List’s National Pro-Life Women’s Caucus, and her colleagues in the legislature for their steadfast determination to save the lives of unborn children and protect mothers. We urge pro-life Ohioans not to give up in the face of this veto, but to continue to advocate for the most vulnerable among us.”
SBA List is a network of more than 700,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
