Longtime Pro-life Leader Up for Re-election in NC-05

Washington, D.C. – Today the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) announced its endorsement of Rep. Virginia Foxx, who is running for re-election in North Carolina’s 5th Congressional District.

“Virginia Foxx’s bold, courageous voice for the unborn and their mothers is absolutely irreplaceable, said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “The pro-life movement can always count on Virginia Foxx to lead the fight for life-saving legislation. To put it bluntly, Virginia Foxx is the abortion lobby’s worst nightmare in Congress.”

Congresswoman Foxx welcomed the endorsement, saying: “I am proud to accept the endorsement of the Susan B. Anthony List. Together, we have worked tirelessly over the past decade to fight for vulnerable mothers and precious unborn children. I am so thankful for the support that SBA List and its members across North Carolina provide as I fight the special-interest abortion lobby, especially Planned Parenthood.”

Susan B. Anthony List first backed Virginia Foxx in her competitive 2004 primary. Foxx has long championed the pro-life cause, and often chairs or leads floor debates on pro-life legislation. During the 114th Congress, she has been a leading advocate of the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would end late-term abortions after five months, a point by which unborn children can feel pain. She has also led the fight to re-direct tax dollars from Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion business, to entities that provide comprehensive health care to women, but do not perform abortions or harvest baby body parts.

SBA List has more than 14,000 members in North Carolina, and currently employs a field team of 223 that has knocked on more than 150,000 doors so far this cycle. During the 2014 election cycle, SBA List knocked on a total of 153,000 doors and made 246,000 live phone calls to defeat then-Senator Kay Hagan, an abortion advocate. In total, SBA List spent $1.9 million in North Carolina in 2014, and plans to make similar investments during the 2016 cycle.

The Susan B. Anthony List and its Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, spent $16.71 million in the 2014 election cycle to defeat pro-abortion incumbents and elect pro-life candidates to federal and statewide office. The SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women.  The SBA List is a network of more than 465,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
