Pro-life Group Will Launch $100,000 Initial Ad Campaign Next Week

Washington, D.C – This afternoon the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) released a new ad attacking Senator Kay Hagan for supporting painful, late abortions after the fifth month of pregnancy. The group will launch an initial $100,000 ad buy beginning next week.

“Kay Hagan is extreme in her adamant refusal to address the suffering of children beyond the fifth month of pregnancy,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Polls show that the majority of Americans – and women in higher numbers than men – support common sense, compassionate legislation to protect women and their babies from late abortion. Hagan’s only response to the ad thus far has been a jumbled string of ad-hominem attacks – poor attempts to distract from her fringe position.”

The ad, featuring Ned and Rebecca Ryun and their daughter Charlotte, focuses on the extreme nature of Kay Hagan’s refusal to support the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. The bill seeks to protect babies more than halfway through pregnancy, based on their ability to feel pain.

Women Speak Out PAC, a partner of the SBA List, and the North Carolina Values Coalition have joined forces to educate voters about Hagan’s extreme stance on abortion. Led by Tami Fitzgerald, the coalition has opened five field offices across the state.

“North Carolinians deserve to know that Senator Hagan supports an extreme platform of abortion on-demand, paid for by the taxpayer,” said North Carolina Values Coalition and State Director Tami Fitzgerald. “Senator Hagan even refuses to support legislation that would limit abortions after 5 months, when unborn children have the ability to feel excruciating pain. We will work tirelessly to expose her radical abortion position to the voters between now and Election Day.”

In November Senator Hagan’s spokeswoman confirmed to Raleigh News & Observer that she opposes the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. The legislation, introduced by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), has 40 cosponsors, including Senator Richard Burr.

The Susan B. Anthony List and Women Speak Out PAC, are dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
