Mayra Flores


Biography

Mayra Flores was born in Burgos Tamaulipas, Mexico. She immigrated to the U.S. when she was six years old and is the first Mexican-born woman to serve in Congress. She grew up in the Rio Grande Valley and went on to become a naturalized American citizen. Working her way through school, she worked as a respiratory care practitioner, serving as a caregiver for the elderly and disabled with chronic respiratory issues. Flores is active in her community, serving as the Hidalgo County GOP Hispanic Outreach Chair. A proud U.S. Customs and Border Protection wife, she and her husband have four children.
