Washington, D.C. –Today SBA Pro-Life America’s Candidate Fund announced its endorsement of Mayra Flores (R) for Congress in Texas’ 34th District.

“We couldn’t be more excited for a rematch between Mayra Flores and Rep. Vicente Gonzalez. Gonzalez is out of touch and needs to go,” said Hon. Marilyn Musgrave, SBA Pro-Life America’s vice president of government affairs. “The people of South Texas are weary of Democrats who pay lip service to their pro-life, family values but betray them in Washington. Vicente Gonzalez has voted over and over to roll back protections for babies in the womb, not just in Texas but in every state, and impose painful late-term abortion with no limits all the way through the ninth month of pregnancy. When Congress voted to protect life-saving care for babies who survive abortion attempts, Gonzalez timidly voted ‘present.’ With Mayra Flores calling them out, the Democrats can’t get away with hiding their extremism. She is the bold, fresh, compassionate voice Texans deserve working to serve moms and save babies. Voters will see the difference and we urge all to support her.”

Flores was born in Burgos Tamaulipas, Mexico. She immigrated to the U.S. when she was six years old and is the first Mexican-born woman to serve in Congress. She grew up in the Rio Grande Valley and went on to become a naturalized American citizen. Working her way through school, she worked as a respiratory care practitioner, serving as a caregiver for the elderly and disabled with chronic respiratory issues. Flores is active in her community, serving as the Hidalgo County GOP Hispanic Outreach Chair. A proud U.S. Customs and Border Protection wife, she and her husband have four children.
