Dannenfelser Rallies Activists, Highlights Women’s Leadership with new Video at March for Life
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the national pro-life Susan B. Anthony List, will join Carly Fiorina, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA), State Sen. Katrina Jackson (D-LA) and other leaders to speak at the March for Life rally today at noon on the National Mall. The 2016 theme of the March for Life is Pro-Life & Pro-Woman Go Hand-in-Hand.
In prepared remarks, Dannenfelser will draw a parallel between the annual pro-life demonstration and the Women’s Suffrage Parade of 1913 when thousands marched from the Capitol to the White House:
“The Women’s Suffrage Parade of 1913 was a key moment in finally securing for women the right to vote – a right they had been fighting to obtain for more than 60 years…
“The women who marched in 1913 knew, as we do, that being pro-life and pro-women go hand in hand. The Parade’s organizer, Alice Paul, was known to have called abortion the ‘ultimate exploitation of women.’ In the crowd 103 years ago was Jeanette Rankin, who would go on to be the first woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Many of her successors are here with us today. These pro-life women in Congress, state houses, and legislatures across the nation are working with passion and courage to defund Planned Parenthood, pass a nationwide ban on abortion after 20 weeks, when babies can feel pain, and ultimately, with your help, overturn the culture of death ushered in by Roe v. Wade 43 years ago today.”
Dannenfelser will premiere a short video created in partnership between the Susan B. Anthony List, Knights of Columbus, and the March for Life. The two minute video encourages young pro-life women to run for office and features members of the Pro-life Women’s Caucus: Rep. Ann Wagner (R-MO), Rep. Mimi Walters (R-CA), Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Rep. Diane Black (R-TN), Sen. Deb Fischer (R-NE), Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-MO).
