SBA List in the Headlines – April 24 – 30

The biggest headlines this week were dominated by news of Indiana Governor Mitch Daniel’s impending decision over whether to sign legislation that would ban abortions after the first 20 weeks and strip away $2 million in state-controlled funding to Planned Parenthood.  The bill passed the Indiana House and Senate late Tuesday, leaving three days of speculation over how his signing or not signing it would affect his potential run for president in 2012.  In the meantime, Beltway media took notice of SBA List’s pressure on Daniels to sign the bill via two letters, urging him to acknowledge the social and fiscal necessity of ending taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood.  They and other outlets quoted Marjorie on how, as someone needing to recant of his past calls for a “truce” on social issues, Daniels should sign the bill to confirm his conservative credentials with the GOP and boost his chances of winning a potential nomination.

Once Daniels announced his decision to sign the bill late in the afternoon on Friday, SBA List issued a comment from Marjorie, saying “Mitch Daniels knows there is no truce on doing what is right.”  Marjorie’s quote was picked up in Beltway publication stories highlighting the importance of candidates’ positions on taxpayer funding of abortion in the upcoming 2012 elections.
