In response to the announcement made today by Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels that he will sign House Bill 1210 into law, SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser commented:
“Mitch Daniels knows there is no truce on doing what is right. House Bill 1210 will save lives, protect women and get taxpayers out of the abortion business. Planned Parenthood neither needs nor deserves taxpayer funding. Both fiscal and social conservatives are united behind the call to defund it. As a fiscal conservative who acknowledges Indiana’s budget problems, Governor Daniels has seen through the scare tactics to the reality that the American people should not continue to foot the bill for Planned Parenthood.”
House Bill 1210 denies all state-controlled funds to Planned Parenthood of Indiana and all other abortion businesses, provides protections for pain-capable children beginning at 20 weeks, opts-out Indiana from abortion coverage in the state health exchanges under Obamacare, requires abortionists or their designees to maintain local hospital admitting privileges, and strengthens Indiana’s informed consent law.
The Susan B. Anthony List spent $11 million during the 2010 midterm election cycle. Overall, the SBA List was involved in 90 races including 62 wins and 28 losses. Successes included: defeating 15 of 20 so-called “pro-life” Democrats who voted for abortion funding in the health care reform bill; increasing the number of pro-life women in the House by 70 percent; filling the void of pro-life women in the U.S. Senate and increasing the number of pro-life women governors from one to four.
