Democrats Unite with DSA on Extreme Abortion Agenda
The Democratic Socialists of America are winning Democratic primaries while holding radical positions across the board. The DSA platform is filled with extremeradical proposals such as universal rent control, complete amnesty for illegal aliens, getting rid of fossil fuels, rampant nationalization, and a dramatic centralization of power including abolishing the U.S. Senate, the Supreme Court, and the Electoral College. But despite fierce intraparty battles and ideological disagreements over some of these issues, the DSA and most rank-and-file elected Democrats are fully aligned on abortion.
The DSA’s updated platform and online posts reveal that the socialist organization backs taxpayer-funded abortion without restrictions. Specifically, the DSA pushes for the “repeal of the Hyde Amendment and all restrictions on abortion.”
Democrats have already been working to allow abortion at any point in every state with the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA). The WHPA would fulfill the DSA’s abortion agenda by enshrining abortion up to birth into law, with all 47 Democrats and Democrat-aligned independents (including Democratic socialist Bernie Sanders) in the Senate backing the measure. 209 House Democrats , including DSA members Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), have embraced this radical piece of legislation.
2026 voters should know that even when rank-and-file Democrats distance themselves from most DSA lunacy, they are embracing a key part of the DSA agenda against the vulnerable: removing all restrictions on abortion.
The DSA’s Radical Pro-Abortion Agenda
The DSA fiercely supports ending protections for the unborn. Their platform, which was updated in June 2026, calls for ending “patriarchal restrictions on abortion, childbirth and childraising, gender expression and transition.”

The DSA also calls for activists to “build a better world that guarantees healthcare as a human right, including the right to free abortions on demand without apology.” This radical slogan in favor of taxpayer-funded abortion appears repeatedly in DSA propaganda, including on a website the DSA created following the Dobbs decision, protectionabortion.org.
The DSA Dobbs response also included encouraging pro-abortion activists to work to “pass laws expanding/protecting access” in blue and purple states. Since then, elected Democrats in Minnesota and Massachusetts took an axe to their already flimsy protections for the unborn. Massachusetts and Minnesota both removed restrictions late in pregnancy to allow abortion up to birth following the Dobbs decision.
But the members of the DSA do more than push blue states to radicalize on abortion and fight for your tax dollars to fund the dismemberment of babies. The Georgia DSA backed the so-called Reproductive Freedom Act, bragging that the law “Repeals all abortion bans throughout pregnancy.” A close look at the bill shows that it dehumanizes the unborn through selective editing of Georgia law, while making it easy for abortionists to kill the babies of pregnant minors without getting the permission of or even notifying their parents. This law continues a national trend of pro-abortion laws and ballot initiatives geared at shifting decision-making protecting the unborn to the discretion of the abortionist who profits from ignoring protections.
And additional published DSA materials show how committed the DSA is to protecting and promoting abortion. A published article on their website criticizes television depictions of abortion, not for their obvious abortion cheerleading and demonization of pro-life advocates, but for not selling their audience on abortion enough. In fact, the author of the DSA article vents that fictional children were not killed. She writes:
“There is also an overrepresentation of characters choosing adoption. In the past decade, fictional characters have chosen adoption at a rate of 9%, as compared with the 1% that is the actual reality.”
A few members of the DSA in elected office have also taken strident stances against the rights of the unborn. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani backed a 2024 ballot provision he claimed would tie the hands of future state governments on abortion. In Congress, DSA members Ocasio Cortez and Tlaib both voted against a bill to protect babies born alive after abortions in 2023, along with 208 other Democrats.
WHPA Shreds Protections for the Unborn, Has Nearly Unanimous Democrat Support
The vote on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act goes to show that there is little practical difference between the abortion extremism of the average elected Democrat and their DSA colleagues in the House. The elected DSA members and their Democratic colleagues in the House of Representatives also offer near-universal support to the WHPA.
The WHPA creates a one-way ratchet in favor of radical abortion laws, by allowing abortionists throughout the nation to abort babies at any point before viability and to determine when they are allowed to kill babies after viability. Incredibly, the law even allows the abortionist to be the judge, jury and executioner on the issue of whether the baby he profits from aborting is viable. But just in case leaving babies unprotected through six months and effectively unprotected up-to-birth isn’t enough, the law specifies that states, “may provide additional circumstances under which post-viability abortions are permitted.”
DSA/Democratic Abortion Extremism is a GOP Opportunity
While Democrats and the DSA are trying to pass radical national legislation, Massachusetts Democrats passed a bill legalizing abortion up to birth with no other safeguard but the judgement of the profiting abortionist.
In response to that radical law, SBA Pro-Life America sent candidates for state and federal offices a memo highlighting the enormous gap between where Americans stand on abortion and where Democrats do.
The Aug. 25 memo, strongly demonstrated that the abortion positions embraced by the vast majority of elected Democrats can shift races towards pro-life Republicans. SBA found that such messages move the overall margin towards the pro-life candidate by between 4.4 and 5.0 points in swing races, compared to baseline support in a control group. And in the 2026 election cycle so far, SBA’s message testing reveals an even larger swing when Democrats’ radical support for aborting pain-capable babies is pitted against Republican proposals to protect the unborn: a swing of 5.3 to 6.6 points.
In the memo, SBA pointed to specific successful messages that move voters. For example, SBA spoke to voters about Democratic states and candidates who support late-term abortion in the 7th, 8th, or 9th month of pregnancy, emphasizing abortions that take place when the baby is perfectly healthy, all organs are formed, and the baby can see, hear, suck her thumb, feel pain, and survive outside the womb. SBA found that voters were consistently moved by factual messaging that babies can feel pain from abortion during this period and much earlier, even early in the second trimester.
The memo added that these findings were buttressed by consistent observations from SBA canvassers over the course of visiting 6 million homes. The memo states, “’Normie’ voters, including persuadable Democrats, are generally shocked and outraged to learn that anyone supports elective abortion late into the second and third trimesters.”
In this case, “anyone” includes 47 Democratic-aligned senators, nearly every Democratic member of the House of Representatives, and the DSA radicals. SBA’s findings clearly demonstrate that Republicans would massively benefit from calling out their pro-abortion opponents for their extreme positions and advocating for commonsense and popular protections instead. GOP candidates can make meaningful gains in 2026 by calling out pro-abortion Democrats and showing voters that they stand with them, with women, and with the precious viable babies that Hakeem Jeffries and Ocasio-Cortez have allied against.
