Democratic Party Extols Taxpayer-Funded Abortion On-Demand, Up to Moment of Birth

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today the Susan B. Anthony List condemned President Obama’s abortion agenda which was further cemented this week with the Democratic Party’s platform plank rejecting any limits to abortion and by the prime-time speaking slots given to abortion advocates at the Democratic National Convention.

“This week abortion advocates including NARAL’s Nancy Keenan and Planned Parenthood’s Cecile Richards will stand on stage at the DNC and celebrate a position radically out of step with mainstream Americans: taxpayer funding of abortion for any reason, up until the moment of birth,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony List. “Despite what these women will claim about the Romney-Ryan ticket, President Obama and his team are the real extremists on abortion.

“Not only has Barack Obama heartlessly refused to support a ban on sex-selection abortion and late-term abortions past the point at which unborn children feel pain, he voted four times to deny constitutional protection to children born alive after a failed abortion – preferring to leave their fate to the abortionist who, only moments before, sought to kill them.

“The SBA List will continue working tirelessly to educate voters on the President’s abortion record so that come November, his extremism will be rejected.”

National polling shows the majority of Americans support bans on sex-selection abortion and late-term abortion past the point at which scientific research shows unborn children can feel pain. Polling released by the Charlotte Lozier Institute, the education and research arm of the Susan B. Anthony List, found that 77 percent of Americans (80 percent of women) support banning sex-selective abortion.

Similarly, a recent poll commissioned by the National Right to Life Committee found that 63 percent of Americans (70 percent of women) support legislation to ban abortions past the point at which unborn children feel pain. The NRLC poll also found that American women, by an overwhelming majority of 62-27 percent, would be more likely to vote for lawmakers who support this bill. President Obama has refused to support either measure.

The Susan B. Anthony List and its connected Political Action Committee, the SBA List Candidate Fund, are dedicated to electing candidates and pursuing policies that will reduce and ultimately end abortion.  To that end, the SBA List will emphasize the election, education, promotion, and mobilization of pro-life women. The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
