Lincoln, NE – Gov. Jim Pillen has issued a proclamation to advance the culture of life in Nebraska, calling on leaders to ensure the unborn are protected, women are empowered and families are thriving.

“Nebraska is a pro-life state that respects the dignity of human life, no matter how small or abled, and affirms that every life has been granted God-given value and purpose,” Pillen’s proclamation states. In the proclamation, Pillen also emphasizes the importance of pregnancy help organizations that offer free care to expectant parents.

Last year, Nebraska became one of 24 states that protects life in the womb after the first trimester. Gov. Pillen signed a measure to protect life 10 weeks earlier than it was previously protected and eliminate elective painful, late-term abortions in the state The 12-week protection that saves babies at the point when their hearts have beat over 10 million times includes rape, incest and life of the mother exceptions.

Adam Schwend, western regional director for SBA Pro-Life America, thanked Gov. Pillen:

“We thank Gov. Jim Pillen for being a compassionate pro-life leader in his efforts to advocate for both moms and babies in Nebraska. After signing a critical 12-week protection into law last year, he recognizes our work is not done yet. By building upon Nebraska’s culture of life and love, we will save more babies in the womb and serve more mothers.

“We are especially grateful for Gov. Pillen expressing support for pregnancy centers and the vital services they provide to mothers like free ultrasounds, counseling, diapers, formula and housing assistance. The governor’s support stands in sharp contrast to states led by Democrats that have attacked pregnancy centers by taking away their funding and halting their ability to provide abortion pill reversal treatment. The lengths Democrats in states like Colorado and California have gone to hinder pregnancy centers shows how too many on the Left are not pro-choice, but pro-abortion.”

In addition to signing Nebraska’s 12-week protection into law, Pillen has been an advocate for foster parenting and adoption. He and his wife have four children. They adopted their youngest son.

By 12 weeks’ gestation, all major organs have formed. At this stage, babies suck their thumbs and already have a right-hand or left-hand preference. Prominent facial features including the nose, cheeks, eyes and ears are recognizable; teeth are developing; and the body responds to touch.
