Charlotte Lozier Institute Experts Will Testify on Harmful Legislation
Washington, D.C. – Today Massachusetts Family Institute, Renew Massachusetts Coalition, Massachusetts Citizens for Life and other local pro-life leaders will hold a rally and press conference at 11:00 a.m. at the State House in Boston, Massachusetts in opposition to the “Roe Act” (SB 1209 and HB 3320) ahead of a hearing on the legislation by the Joint Committee on the Judiciary.
Associate Scholars with Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI), the research arm of the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List), will provide expert testimony on the extremism of the “Roe Act,” which would expand late-term abortion on demand through birth, eliminate Massachusetts’ existing parental consent law, and remove protections for babies born alive in failed abortions.
“As a female board-certified Ob/Gyn, who used to perform late term abortions, it is my professional opinion that this legislation would cause harm to women and their babies by removing important safeguards in current Massachusetts law,” said CLI Associate Scholar Dr. Kathi Aultman. “It would exempt abortionists and their clinics from the oversight required of all other medical providers. It puts total control in the hands of those who profit from abortion—those who would be the most motivated to skimp on safety measures. I cannot believe that the people and legislators of Massachusetts have completely lost their moral compass. I have faith that they will have more concern for the safety and welfare of women and their babies than they do for a radical feminist agenda, and defeat this legislation.”
“Massachusetts has been a leader in enacting legislation to protect teen girls and their unborn children,” said Dr. Michael New, a CLI associate scholar, visiting assistant professor of political science and social research at The Catholic University of America and former adjunct professor at the University of Massachusetts – Boston. “A 1986 American Journal of Public Health study that specifically analyzed the Massachusetts parental involvement law found that in the 20 months after the law took effect, abortions performed on minors in Massachusetts fell by over 179 per month. At the same time the number of Massachusetts minors who obtained abortions in neighboring states increased by 65 per month. This law saved 114 lives per month or over 1,300 lives per year.”

SBA List’s State Policy Director Sue Liebel spoke at a pro-life rally in Boston earlier this month to oppose the legislation, at which point she announced the findings of an SBA List poll:
SBA List is a network of more than 787,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
Charlotte Lozier Institute was launched in 2011 as the education and research arm of Susan B. Anthony List. CLI is a hub for research and public policy analysis on some of the most pressing issues facing the United States and nations around the world. The Institute is named for a feminist physician known for her commitment to the sanctity of human life and equal career and educational opportunities for women.Â
