Extremist Democrats Defy Mainstream American Values – Including Half of Fellow Democrats – by Opposing Legislation to #EndInfanticide

Washington, D.C.The Senate Committee on the Judiciary will hold a hearing on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, led by the author of the bill, Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE). The hearing will take place today, February 11 at 10AM in the Dirksen Senate Office Building Room 226.

“Democratic candidates for president have unashamedly advocated an agenda of abortion on demand, without limits, paid for by taxpayers. They oppose popular legislation to limit abortion after five months and even oppose this commonsense, compassionate bill to protect babies born alive after failed abortions. Their extremism knows no bounds. It is no wonder leading Democrats have said there is no room for pro-lifers in their party,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser.

“Meanwhile, the overwhelming majority of Americans – including 75 percent of Independents and 70 percent of Democrats – want Congress to pass this lifesaving bill that would simply ensure babies who survive failed abortions receive the medical care they deserve. We thank President Trump, who most recently called out abortion extremism in his State of the Union address, as well as Senator Sasse and Chairman Graham for their leadership on this bill.”

SBA List’s National Campaign Chair Jill Stanek, a former nurse who witnessed babies being born alive and left to die, and a key witness who will testify at the hearing, added:

“As a nurse I held a precious child who had been abandoned to die alone in the hospital’s soiled utility room after surviving an abortion. Twenty years later, we are still fighting for the basic care these little ones deserve. As extremists in New York, Virginia, Illinois, and other states push to expand abortion on demand through the moment of birth, abortion survivors desperately need Congress to pass the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, to provide them with legal and medical protections and not leave open the decision whether they live or die.”

Also testifying is Dr. Robin Pierucci, M.D., M.A., a clinical neonatologist and associate scholar with SBA List’s research arm, Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI), and Patrina Mosely, Director of Life, Culture and Women’s Advocacy at the Family Research Council (FRC).

SBA List and CLI witnesses will be available for comment. Please contact Prudence Robertson at [email protected] to schedule an interview.

The Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act was first introduced by Senator Sasse in January of 2019. In February of last year, Senate Democrats voted to block the bill.

Rep. Ann Wagner introduced the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act in the House of Representatives in February 2019. Since then, House Democratic Party leaders have refused more than 80 requests by pro-life Republicans for unanimous consent for the House to consider it. 204 members of Congress have signed a discharge petition filed by Whip Scalise to hold a vote on the bill. If a majority of representatives sign the petition, it will force a vote by the full House.

Nationwide polling released by SBA List finds that 77 percent of voters support legislation to ensure that a baby who survives a failed abortion be given the same medical treatment as any other baby born prematurely at the same age (55 percent strongly support).

SBA List is a network of more than 837,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
