Pro-Life Stalwarts Show Authentic Leadership, Refuse to Let Voters Down
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) President Marjorie Dannenfelser applauded Reps. Mike Pence (R-IN) and Jim Jordan (R-OH) for their steadfast leadership in the fight to defund Planned Parenthood of taxpayer dollars.
“Mike Pence and Jim Jordan have shown how seriously they take taxpayers’ non-negotiable demand to defund Planned Parenthood of our tax dollars,” said Dannenfelser. “They understand that a ban on taxpayer-funded abortions in the District of Columbia in the budget deal is good, but not good enough. They heard the insistence of voters to return government to its first principles, and they will not let those voters down.
“We proudly stand with them and hold them up as examples of authentic leadership. They have proven to be far better allies to women than Planned Parenthood, holding that group accountable to taxpayer scrutiny, revealing its abortion-centered focus and exposing its institutional willingness to leave women and girls vulnerable to sexual predators. Pence and Jordan have led the fight to expose Planned Parenthood for the abortion franchise that it is. SBA List and the pro-life grassroots will continue to fight alongside these brave leaders until Planned Parenthood is privatized.”
Rep. Mike Pence is the sponsor of an amendment passed by the House by a vote of 240 to 185, which would strike all federal funding of Planned Parenthood within the CR, as well as the “Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act,” which would ensure that tax dollars are not sent to abortion providers under Title X family planning funds. Last Friday, Rep. Jim Jordan joined SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser on a media conference call to discuss the efforts to defund Planned Parenthood and correct myths about the organization’s services to women. Rep. Jordan chairs the influential Republican Study Committee which has fought alongside Rep. Mike Pence to defund Planned Parenthood.
The Susan B. Anthony List spent $11 million during the 2010 midterm election cycle. Overall, the SBA List was involved in 90 races including 62 wins and 28 losses. Successes included: defeating 15 of 20 so-called “pro-life” Democrats who voted for abortion funding in the health care reform bill; increasing the number of pro-life women in the House by 70 percent; filling the void of pro-life women in the U.S. Senate and increasing the number of pro-life women governors from one to four.
