Constitutional Amendment Would Remove Parental Rights

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The pro-abortion constitutional ballot amendment that would pose a health risk to women and girls is now in the full signature-gathering phase following the Ohio Ballot Board completing its review today.

The measure would amend Article 1 of the Ohio Constitution to eliminate existing health and safety precautions as well as parental rights in Ohio law. It would invalidate laws that ensure a woman receives medical care from a licensed doctor who can transfer her to a local hospital in emergency situations. Parents would no longer need to be informed or provide consent for an underage daughter to undergo abortion.

Late-term abortion up until the moment of birth would be allowed under the law – allowing for abortions well past a point when science shows unborn children can feel pain.

SBA Pro-Life America’s State Affairs Director Sue Liebel shared her reaction:

“Planned Parenthood’s goal is to profit at the expense of human lives and parental rights through this constitutional amendment. In Ohio, along with every state where they will be bankrolling extreme abortion-on-demand proposals, Planned Parenthood has no regard for how this constitutional amendment could jeopardize women’s health and subject teenage girls to coercion. Parents won’t stand for the radical attempt to take away their right to be involved in their children’s lives, especially when it comes to major life-altering decisions that affect their health, safety and well-being.”

Abortion advocates must collect more than 440,000 Ohio signatures in 44 of the state’s 88 counties in order for the constitutional amendment to appear on the ballot.
