Washington, D.C. – Tonight the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) declared victory as its endorsed candidate Governor Kim Reynolds won re-election in Iowa. Reynolds defeated Fred Hubbell, a longtime former board member of Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion business.

Women Speak Out PAC, a partner of SBA List, and The FAMiLY LEADER undertook a six-figure independent expenditure campaign to mobilize pro-life voters across Iowa to support Gov. Reynolds’ re-election and educate them about Hubbell’s extreme pro-abortion record.

“We congratulate Governor Kim Reynolds and are proud to see her win re-election,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Kim is a principled pro-life champion who has signed legislation to protect unborn babies beginning at their first heartbeats, fought to stop taxpayer funding of abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood, and shepherded crucial pro-life bills like the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act through the Iowa legislature. Her defeat of Planned Parenthood’s candidate, abortion extremist Fred Hubbell, is a victory for unborn children and their mothers and a blow to the abortion industry in Iowa. Governor Reynolds has shown great courage in defending life and we look forward to the pro-life progress Iowa will make under her continued leadership.”

Kim Reynolds became the first female governor of Iowa in 2017, succeeding Governor Terry Branstad, after serving as lieutenant governor for six years. Prior to being elected lieutenant governor, she was a state senator. SBA List first endorsed Reynolds in 2010, and in 2013, she became a member of the Leadership Team of SBA List’s newly-formed National Pro-life Women’s Caucus. In August of 2017 she was inducted into the Iowa Women’s Hall of Fame, along with U.S. Senator Joni Ernst.

SBA List is dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders. SBA List is a network of more than 700,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
