SBA Candidate Fund Endorsed Teresa Collett Claims MN-04 Primary Win

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tonight, Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund-endorsed Teresa Collett defeated Dr. Jack Shephard in the race for the Republican primary nomination in Minnesota’s 4th District.

“Minnesota families deserve the pro-life feminine leadership Teresa Collett has already demonstrated in multiple pro-life advocacy roles,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA List Candidate Fund.  “Collett’s commitment to rescinding taxpayer funding of abortion in health care is urgently needed in the next Congress. Her understanding of the deep roots of the harm abortion inflicts upon women and children will be a tremendous asset in Congress.”

Collett’s record of pro-life advocacy spans for more than a decade in which she has testified before a committee of the U.S. Senate about the consequences of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, before the U.S. House of Representatives and various state legislatures about the constitutional right of parents to know of their daughter’s decision before an abortion and before the U.S. Supreme Court regarding partial birth abortion and parental notification.

“Teresa Collett has expressed her strong determination to be a vocal advocate for women and unborn children in abortion debates on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, much as she has for her entire career,” Dannenfelser said.

In the general election Collett will face Democrat incumbent Betty McCollum, who has a 0 percent NRLC rating including a vote against the Smith-Stupak Amendment to protect the pro-life “Mexico City Policy,” several votes in favor of federal funding for Planned Parenthood and a vote in favor of the health care reform bill providing for federal abortion funding.

The Susan B. Anthony List plans to spend $6 million on voter education in the midterm elections, including $3 million on key Senate races, $1 million in bundled direct candidate contributions from SBA List members and $1.5 million on its plan to target “pro-life” Democrats who voted for abortion funding in the health care bill. The Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of over 280,000 Americans, residing in all 50 states, dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics. Its connected Candidate Fund increases the percentage of pro-life women in the political process.
