WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund, a national pro-life political action committee, announced its endorsement of Renee Ellmers, candidate for U.S. Representative in North Carolina’s 2nd congressional district.
“North Carolinians and all American women deserve the pro-life feminine leadership Renee Ellmers so capably provides,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA List Candidate Fund. “Informed by her own health care background, Ellmers’s commitment to rescind taxpayer funding of abortion in health care and in every aspect of federal spending is urgently needed in the coming Congress.
“A new women’s movement which affirms its original pro-life roots is making its way to the House of Representatives, and Ellmers is one of its brightest new stars.”
Mrs. Ellmers has extensive experience in the healthcare industry working as a nurse and running a trauma surgery clinic alongside her husband, a surgeon. She actively opposes the healthcare reform bill which included federal of abortion and, arguably, the greatest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade.
Incumbent Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-NC) voted for the healthcare reform bill that included federal funding of abortion. He recently received attention when a videotape surfaced of a physical altercation with a student.
Ellmers and Etheridge will face off in the November general election.
The Susan B. Anthony List plans to spend $6 million on voter education in the midterm elections, including $3 million on key Senate races. The Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of over 280,000 Americans, residing in all 50 states, dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics. Its connected Candidate Fund increases the percentage of pro-life women in the political process.
