Washington, DC ─ Today, the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund, a national pro-life political action committee, announced its endorsement of Mike Pence and Sue Ellspermann for Indiana Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Indiana. The Pence-Ellspermann ticket will face off against John Gregg and Vi Simpson in November.
“The SBA List Candidate Fund was thrilled when Mike Pence announced his choice of a strong woman leader like Sue Ellspermann as his running mate. We are proud to endorse this solid pro-life ticket,” said Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “There could not be a greater contrast between these two teams, including the two women running for lieutenant governor. A leader both in academia and politics, Sue Ellspermann is a bold example of authentic pro-life feminism which rejects the notion that women must choose between our children and our achievements. Sue will be an asset to the campaign and the administration of Mike Pence, a longtime pro-life hero in Washington.
“On the other hand, Indiana state senator Vi Simpson espouses the extreme abortion agenda highlighted at the Democratic National Convention, having voted against any and all efforts to curb abortion, including parental notification efforts and defunding abortion providers. Hoosier women and families will be better served by Mike Pence and Sue Ellspermann who will fight for them – not serve the abortion industry.”
Mike Pence has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2001 and has a 100 percent pro-life voting record. Congressman Pence has led the charge to stop taxpayer funding from going to America’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, and spearheaded the 2011 campaign to defund the organization through the Pence Amendment.
Sue Ellspermann was elected to the Indiana state legislature in 2010. She was featured in WORLD Magazine as an up and coming pro-life woman in politics. Ellspermann has earned a 100 percent pro-life voting record while in the legislature. She holds a bachelor’s degree and a PhD in industrial engineering from Purdue and the University of Louisville. Prior to serving in the Indiana Statehouse, Ellspermann founded a consulting business, directed the University of Southern Indiana’s Center for Applied Research and was actively involved with the Vanderburgh County Right to Life. The Pence-Ellspermann ticket is endorsed by Indiana Right to Life.
During the 2010 election cycle, SBA List spent $11 million and was involved in 90 races, 62 of which resulted in victories. Successes included: defeating 15 of 20 so-called “pro-life” Democrats who voted for abortion funding in the health care reform bill, increasing the number of pro-life women in the House by 70 percent, filling the void of pro-life women in the U.S. Senate, and increasing the number of pro-life women governors from one to four.
The Susan B. Anthony List, and its connected Political Action Committee, the SBA List Candidate Fund, are dedicated to electing candidates and pursuing policies that will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List will emphasize the election, education, promotion, and mobilization of pro-life women. The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
