Washington, D.C. – Today Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America’s Candidate Fund announced its endorsement of Derek Schmidt and Katie Sawyer for governor and lieutenant governor of Kansas, respectively.
Incumbent Governor Laura Kelly is backed by the nation’s most extreme pro-abortion lobby groups. Planned Parenthood, NARAL and EMILY’s List are spending $150 million across nine states, including Kansas, to elect Democrats who support abortion on demand until birth.
“Derek Schmidt and Katie Sawyer are vocal pro-life advocates and we are proud to endorse them,” said SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Kansans deserve better than pro-abortion extremists like Laura Kelly, who doesn’t want to hear what the people have to say about Democrats’ radical abortion-on-demand policies at the ballot box. Derek and Katie have what it takes and will make a strong team fighting to protect unborn children and serve women across the Sunflower State.”
Schmidt was elected attorney general of Kansas in 2010 and re-elected in 2014 and 2018. He previously served as a state senator and Senate Majority Leader. He and his wife Jennifer have two daughters.
Sawyer is a farmer, mother, business owner and fourth generation Kansan. She and her husband own and operate an Angus farm and are the proud parents of two boys.
SBA Pro-Life America previously announced it will invest at least $1.3 million to educate voters about the Value Them Both Amendment, which states that there is no right to abortion or taxpayer-funded abortion in the state constitution and would restore the right of Kansans and their elected officials to enact laws protecting unborn children and their mothers. Student canvassers with the group have already visited 132,000 homes of voters across the state and plan to visit 250,000 homes before the August primary to encourage Kansans to vote YES.
This election cycle, SBA Pro-Life America and its affiliated entities plan to spend $78 million to protect life across America. This includes reaching eight million voters across battleground states – four million directly at their doors – to educate them on key issues and win pro-life majorities in the U.S. House and Senate.
