House Urged to Concur, Send Quickly to McMaster’s Desk
Washington, D.C. – Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America reacted to the South Carolina Senate’s passage of HB 5399 with amendments. This legislation stops taxpayer dollars from funding abortions through Planned Parenthood or state employee insurance plans and maintains the protections for unborn children from the moment their heartbeat can be detected enacted in 2021, as well as strengthening protections against discriminatory abortions.
“Advances in science have made the humanity of a child undeniable, and South Carolinians have made it clear through their legislators that they desire strong protections for unborn children from the moment their heartbeat can be detected. They will not tolerate lethal discrimination against children in the womb, and they do not want their taxpayer dollars to fund Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in South Carolina,” said SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Elected officials made critical decisions after listening to the will of South Carolinians. We urge the House to concur and quickly send this life-saving bill to Gov. McMaster to sign into law. This law would end whatever confusion the South Carolina Supreme Court believes existed and allow unborn children to again be protected in the Palmetto State. We will continue to work with the strong pro-life leaders in South Carolina until all mothers and babies are protected from the horrors of abortion.”
Since the Dobbs decision, more than a dozen states have taken action to protect life, with the potential to save more than 200,000 lives.
A Charlotte Lozier Institute legal and medical analysis shows that all 23 states with strong pro-life laws currently on the books allow necessary and timely medical treatment for miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, and other procedures necessary to save the life of a pregnant woman.
