Washington, D.C. – For the second consecutive year, Democrats on the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing decrying protections for babies in the womb advanced by nearly half the country after the landmark Dobbs Supreme Court decision. The hearing, misleadingly titled “The Continued Assault on Reproductive Freedoms in a Post-Dobbs America,” will take place today at 2:30 p.m. EDT.
House Pro-Life Caucus Co-Chair Rep. Michelle Fischbach (R-MN) will participate in a one-to-one member panel with Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), followed by a witness panel.
Monique C. Wubbenhorst, M.D., MPH, FACOG, FAHA, senior fellow at the University of Notre Dame’s de Nicola Center for Ethics and Culture, and Professor Carter Snead, director of the de Nicola Center, will testify. Dr. Wubbenhorst, a practicing board-certified OB-GYN with more than 30 years’ experience in patient care, teaching, research, health policy and global health, is also a member of the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Ahead of the hearing, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America slammed the Democrats’ extremism in a statement:
“Real freedom means offering concrete help for the majority of women facing unexpected pregnancies who want to keep their babies, not pushing them toward ending their child’s life for lack of resources. Nearly 70% of women who’ve had abortions describe them as coerced, unwanted or out of line with their own preferences and values. Yet pro-abortion Democrats refuse to talk about abortion coercion and keep pushing abortion on demand with no limits, paid for by taxpayers, as a cure-all. They refuse to talk about abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood facilitating the trafficking of girls as young as 13 across state lines for abortions without telling their parents. And they condone discrimination against babies with a disability who are overwhelmingly targeted for abortion, frequently when their mothers face pressure from doctors who are forgetting to care for both patients,” said SBA Pro-Life America’s Vice President of Communications Emily Erin Davis. “Democrats’ signature abortion bill, the deceptive Women’s Health Protection Act, would force all-trimester abortion on every state and roll back commonsense guardrails like parental consent for minors. Meanwhile the Biden-Harris administration seeks to cut off longstanding funds used by pregnancy resource centers nationwide to provide a lifeline for moms and babies.”
The so-called Women’s Health Protection Act is backed by President Biden and co-sponsored by every Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee. SBA Pro-Life America has detailed how this bill would go further than Roe v. Wade to impose no-limits abortion on demand at any point in pregnancy, everywhere in America.
Davis continued:
“Women and girls across America are suffering from the policies of a failed administration, and the Democratic Party has little to offer them besides abortion and fearmongering. They are radically out of step with the majority of Americans who want to protect babies at least when they feel pain in the womb, not have cruel late-term abortions at any time for any reason.”
Multiple post-Dobbs polls show that at least seven in 10 Americans support significant limits on abortion. A clear majority of Americans oppose taxpayer-funded abortion on demand domestically, and more than two thirds oppose using tax dollars to promote abortion overseas.
